OUR HOUNDS
SYVH has been using typically english bloodlines for a number of years now.
These bloodlines are some of the best known in the U.S..including Toronto North York
lines
from Canada, Plum Run from Pennsylvania and Blue Ridge lines from VA. The English
hound brings much
to the table -A biddable nature, an aggresive hunting style and a very genetically hardy
bloodline.
What they lack however are cold scenting noses ( a quality of real value in our Calif
Environment).
English hounds will never posees the large bell-like musical voice of the American-
PMD or
French hound. To this end, after assesing our needs and in concert with the Masters'
wishes to
improve our Pack, we have drafted 4 new hounds from the Grand Canyon hunt in AZ.
These hounds
(Jolt, Dou Dou, Simon and True) are of the old East coast PMD lines. Bred to hunt a line
and stick
to it, no matter how old. This is the cold nose quality. They also bring large singing
voices
while on track. Peter Wilson (huntsman) at Gand Canyon Hounds was nice enough to
provide us
with some outstanding hounds that, once bred into our line of SYVH, will bring the best
of cross bred
talents- good dry ground noses, biddable nature, and that wonderful voice. Since
Foxhunting is
a sport of asthetics as well as function, these hounds will play an important role in
developing the "look" and "type" we seek. Matched in conformation and color, they will
be a joy
to watch in the field!
